Breast Cancer Trucut Biopsy Breast Cancer Trucut Biopsy
For palpable lumps - (those lumps that can be felt by hand), the procedure is opd visit procedure, takes 2 to 5 mins, under local anesthesia, a 2 - 3 mm cut is made with small knife and using biopsy gun, small cores of tissue are removed and sent for histopatholgical examination. The patient can go back home immediately after the procedure. The histopathology report may take 3 to 7 days depending upon the centre where tissue is sent for examination.
Note: Prior appointment is necessary for the procedure.
For lumps that are very small and not palpable - The procedure is done by sonologist (at other centres) under ultrasound guidance.
